City Break Travel Essentials #Berlin

City Break Travel Essentials #Berlin

Hello everybody!

When you travel are you a chuck-it-all-in-and-go kinda gal or someone who needs lists?

I am a total list kinda chick. There will always be a handful of items you’ll inevitably forget when you pack for any type of trip. So I make a list in advance to try and prevent the (almost) inevitable! The hotel might have a hairdryer… but it might not/ almost certainly won’t have your favourite cleanser!

I’m off to Berlin tomorrow and today I’m going to share with you my personal LIST.

Basics:

  • Suitcase (in my case a little one as it’s a carry on #studentbudget)
  • Electronics: Phone, Kindle, Camera etc.
  • Chargers for the above (we’ve all been there!)
  • Travel adapters.
  • PASSPORT.
  • £££- currency and debit cards.
  • Headphones.
  • Travel Insurance (for just incase!)
  • Sun glasses.
  • Playing cards.

Makeup Bits:

  • Mac Lipsticks: Kinda Sexy (the nude-y colour) and Creme Shene On Hold (more red in tone). Kinda Sexy was the first MAC lipstick I got and I have recently fallen back in love with it- it’s the perfect nude, and On Hold is a subtle colour pop.
  • Highlight: Goddess of Love, Triple Baked Highlighter. I love all things Makeup Revolution, especially their powders, this highlight is super pigmented and shimmery.
  • Eyeliner: Collection Fine Stroke Eyeliner. I very rarely switch up my eyeliner, but my other one was running out to the point it was barely visible, so I tried  a new one and it’s really good!
  • Bare Minerals: Bronzer, Warmth All Over Face Colour. I have been using this for literally YEARS, it may look little, but it lasts a really long time. It’s a super natural bronzed look.
  • Foundation: Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hrs. Foundations have been a real nightmare for. I have naturally oily skin and so after a few hours my foundation tends to look cake-y and as if I’m super sweaty (always a great look!). I have tried loads of different foundations and this is the best to date. It’s light on the skin, has SPF 20 and I don’t look like an oily mess by 10 AM in the morning! Highly recommend to anyone with combination to oily skin!
  • Eyebrow pencil: Maybelline New York: Browsation. This is my favourite product to do my brows, I have quite fair hair, so I get the lightest shade! It comes with a sponge and a little pencil on either end. It makes my brows quick and easy to do in the morning.
  • Mascara: Benfit Roller Lash. I LOVE Benefit cosmetics, it’s a little bit more pricey, but so worth it. I have always had quite short and straight eyelashes so I need all the lift and length I can get!
  • Blusher: Benefit Galifornia. Love, love, love the coral-ly undertones.
  • Nail varnish: Maybelline New York Down Town Red. Red nail varnish is something I always revert back to, not matter how adventurous I try to be!

Skincare and Hygiene

Time spent travelling, in the sea, in the snow- you name it- can have a serious effect on your hair and skin. So I like to make sure I cover all bases and pack the essentials.

  • Clarifying Lotion: Clinique: I love this (as you can see by how much is left!) it is a little more pricey, but worth every penny.
  • Eye Cream: Botanics Radiant Youth Hydrating Eye Cream: This nourishing eye cream helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and dark circles for a more illuminated under-eye appearance. I use it every night before bed and I have noticed how much more moisturised that area of my face feels.
  • Day Cream: Botanics Radiant Youth Protecting Day Cream: This helps to keep skin looking younger with added UV protection. I put this on about 5 minutes before I do my makeup, so that it soaks in and gives me a moisturised, but not sticky, base to apply my makeup to.
  • Night Cream: Botanics Radiant Youth Replenishing Night Cream: keeps my face fresh, hydrated and also acts as an anti-aging cream (and I am a firm believer that you are never too young to start using these!)

hol 3

Smelling good and feeling good is a MUST for city breaks!

  • Fake Tan: Build Me Up Gradual Tan Lotion (Superdrug own brand!): I searched for ages for a tan that was easy to apply… but also cheap (again, hello student budget!) and this tan is super cheap, about £3-£4 and was just as good as the Dove one I had been using.
  • Perfume: Because It’s You, Emporio Armani: my all time favourite scent.
  • Lip Balm: Body Shop Lip Butter: smells fabby and keeps my lips moisturised. I always make sure to take a lip balm on holiday, there is nothing worse that cracked or sore lips!

hol 2There is always a worry that packing miniature bath products won’t be enough for your holiday. However, from my experience packing miniature, such as shampoos etc, are not just a great way to free up some space, but are also enough for a week away (even if you’re using them twice a day!)

  • Deodorant: Sanex: Sanex is my go-to.
  • Shampoo: Pantene.
  • Conditioner: Dove.
  • Toothpaste: Oral B.

So there you have it, I hope you find this post helpful- wherever you are going in the world!

15 Reasons I Am Happy Today

15 Reasons I Am Happy Today

Recently, I have been in a bit of a funk.

There is so much to be said for being happy. I can complain as much as the next girl, but there is nothing better than being content. Sometimes I find it really hard to be positive and it can feel like things just go wrong- All. The. Time. With University strikes, my third and final year coming to an end and what feels like mountains of work- I’ve just been feeling a little bit naff. But like I said, this is just a funk. A temporary blip to look back on and think ‘thank goodness- I made it’.

1

So today I wrote a list of 15 things that make me happy. Despite all the crappiness.

  1. Right now, I am sat at my desk, with a coffee. For which I am eternally grateful. It is the fuel in my engine and the source of my procaffeinating.
  2. My friends. I have just got back from a trip to Reading to see my cousin, Jess, and I realised just how much I love her. Friends end up being rocks without knowing it sometimes. My little group chat was buzzing away today, and I was reminded of how much I love our little conversations.
  3. Living so close to Leamington Spa Parade. I didn’t really consider Leamington Spa in my choosing of Warwick as my University of choice but it turns out it was a pretty good shout considering that its littered with coffee shops (literally every other shop). I am grateful for these coffee shops providing my flat-mate, Hannah, and I with the opportunity to escape from the flat and drink coffee (and inevitably window shop).
  4. I am loving eye liner at the moment. Feeling stressed can make me feel totally yuck. But I’ve found that putting on eyeliner every morning has really given me a boost. Essentially, I feel like crap, but at a glance, look somewhat put together!3
  5. My boyfriend. He’s pretty damn awesome and puts up with a lot. He buys me pasta, shares my love of skittles, and watches Netflix with me. I’m grateful we’re both going through University together. His constant motivation I find both baffling and inspiring.
  6. My dissertation is getting better. I’m writing it. I’m starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
  7. The lady in Costa who forever showers me in compliments and I don’t think she quite realises how much it cheers me up. I want to get her a little gift before I leave University for being such a gem. She does the same to my friend Hannah too. Maybe that contributes to my visiting Costa quite so often! 2
  8. Brunch. The invention of it. I love it. I love Bills. If it’s pancakes or something remotely avocado, I’m good with it.
  9. Floaty trousers. I’ve been feeling somewhat potato-like recently. A little bit circular-like, and sort of ugly. It’s probably the snacks and lack of movement from my desk. But floaty trousers have been a God-send. They make me feel less podgy and a little bit stylish!
  10. James Blunt. Recently, I’ve been listening to him (and Nina Simone) non-stop.
  11. Having said that Taylor Swift has made the car journeys with Hannah one hell of a throw back to my teenage years. Which I love. There is something fantastic about singing at the top of your lungs in the car with one of your best friends.4
  12. Colourful clothes. In these Dark Times (which I feel is a totally appropriately name for these Strike-ridden days/weeks/months) make me a lot chirpier. I feel more alive. Which sounds so dramatic.
  13. The weather. It’s much warmer since the snow melted (pfft surprising that!) and I like it. Sat on the train today, directly in the sun, made me desperately want to be on a beach holiday, with a pina colada in one hand and a crappy magazine in the other.
  14. Cornwall. I am off on a little adventure with my family (and my dogs) and I cannot wait. I’m excited to relax, play board games- and maybe even read a book!
  15. Netflix. Hannah and I have really got into all things murder mystery and CSI on Netflix recently- if you fancy something easy to watch and to cool down to in the evening I highly recommend the documentaries section on Netflix! We mostly natter and drink tea together, but I love it.
Gluten-Free Banana Pancakes!

Gluten-Free Banana Pancakes!

With my holiday to Portugal in two weeks time, I am starting to think that I should do a last minute health surge to (hopefully!) make me feel that little bit better in a bikini! I wouldn’t necessarily use the word ‘detox’, but I am definitely trying to avoid foods that will make me bloat, and am trying to eat as much fruit and veg as I can. I have never had the flattest of bellies, and I try to do sport as much as I can, but I can confirm that I notice a big difference if I cut out all wheat and limit the amount of dairy (or lacto-free dairy) in take I have. Downside: this can make me a lil grumpy.

So this morning I thought I would try some Banana Pancakes- I had heard of them before and thought I would give them a go- and they were pretty damn good!

Banana Pancakes:

17820380_1312556548780528_1170667810_o

Serves 2 people: makes 4 pancakes- don’t worry they’re pretty filling!

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 2 large eggs
  • A pinch of baking soda
  • A dash of vanilla essence
  • Oil- I used olive oil

Method

Beat the eggs in one bowl and mash the banana in another. Make sure the banana is pretty well mashed, more of a paste. Then mix the banana with the eggs and add the vanilla and a pinch of baking soda. Mix it all together and you have your pancake batter.

I always seem to add too much oil so today I brushed it onto the pan, so I had a thin coat of oil on the pan. Heat the pan on a medium heat. When the pan is nice and hot, spoon out enough mixture for two pancakes- so half the batter.

Leave them to cook for one to two minutes on each side, and then flip them. Once they’re done, put them to one side and do the other two. Remember to add another coat of oil on the pan, and remove any burnt or excess pancake from the last lot- burnt pancake can smell pretty gross.

Then enjoy with whatever toppings you like, or even plain! They’re pretty sweet due to the banana and the vanilla.

Here are a few of my favourite toppings:

  • Cinnamon and sugar sprinkled over the top.
  • Honey, maple syrup or golden syrup- depending on how healthy I am feeling.
  • Nutella- for my cheat/treat days!
  • Caramelised apple with cinnamon- I have blogged about these before and OMG they taste insane, however do contain a bit of sugar, so probably not the healthiest option.
  • Lemon or orange and sugar.
  • Chopped fruit- strawberries and raspberries are the bees knees on pancakes.
  • Yoghurt- I have lacto-free yoghurts, or soya yoghurts, but my favourite is the strawberry flavoured.

I hope you love these as much as I do- kick start your day with a healthy, non-bloaty breakfast and experiment with your toppings.

Bee xoxo

Holiday Must-Haves

Holiday Must-Haves

Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen and hydrating moisturiser- the best smelling suncream on the block. Honestly smells insanely good and, most importantly, lasts hours without reapplication. Though I do tan, I have rather sunburn prone skin- so factor 30 for me!

Umberto Giannini Curl Friends Create a Curl Scrunching Jelly- the hair dryer is never appealing on a hot holiday. I love hopping out the shower, pulling a comb through my hair and towel drying it, then scrunching the product from the middle of my hair to the ends. It doesn’t leave your hair crunchy like other products I have tried and helps wavy hair hold curls.

An Epilator- I wasn’t sure about epilators, so I bought a cheap £20 one from Boots to give it a go, and I love it. I always use it before bed as it leaves a “chicken skin” effect that dies down after a few hours. I have to admit it stings a tad, but it’s so worth it- much less hassle!

Bare Minerals Bronzer- for some reason my face never seems as bronzed as the rest of my body after sunbathing. I am in love with this Bronzer. I was given it as a gift in a set and it’s a small pot of dark powder. You don’t need much at all and it lasts all day. It really does look super natural. I highly recommend it.

Makeup Revolution London Highlighter- I have discussed my highlight palette before, but this product would be up on my must haves all year list! I always like putting in the extra bit of effort when we go out on holiday, and I feel the highlighter does this super easily. My personal favourite shade at the moment is the white or the lilac. Even better, you need very little to enhance your summer tan.

Swim Suit and Bikini- I love having the option, one for the summer tan and one for water games.

Lemon- as a natural blonde, I get a great sense of achievement in coming back a few shades lighter. Lemon juice squeezed evenly in your hair throughout the day can do this naturally and quickly! However, I always use conditioner in my hair afterwards to prevent that crunchy and dry feel the next day.

Aussi Spray in Conditioner- leading on from this point, this spray really does work miracles. Chlorine can dry out my hair pretty quickly so preventing the knots and cots is top of my list. This aussi spray is slightly more pricey, but works immediately and smells good enough to eat.

Sarong- I always bring something to cover myself up if I need to, and this year I bought a thin, white, cotton shirt. I love it. It’s so easy to put on, and looks great with bikinis!

Mosquito Spray- I ain’t having no bites.

Nail Varnish- to top up those toes! I always go for pinks and corals as they emphasise a tan.

Deadlines, Burritos and Pina Colada

Deadlines, Burritos and Pina Colada

16th May 2016

Last week was a mash up of emotions!

  • Handed in two massive pieces of coursework. There is no denying it felt amazing. I feel as if I am finally getting the hang of this whole writing essays thing.
  • Officially finished all my lectures and seminars in my first year at University and I am beyond thrilled. Though, I still have an exam to revise for and a webpage to make.
  • Watched ‘Marley and Me’.
  • Beat my record distance on the treadmill at the gym and went every day last week with my friend Hannah. Plus I have even started doing the mini exercise routines by Lucy Wyndham-Read in between revision- they’re so quick and intense, I love them!
  • Managed to throw my favourite Disney mug in the bath, resulting in the mug smashing and creating a chip in the tub- white nail varnish was my only hope. Got angry. Tried to tidy the mess in an angry mood- got porcelain stuck in my finger. Cried. Phoned Hannah. Went for coffee.
  • As someone with majorly outdated music taste, I have recently been loving the Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack. I now know the words to Escape (the Pina Colada Song) backwards- seriously, why wasn’t I born in the 70’s or 80’s?
  • Tried my first Burrito at the Food Fair at University!
  • Spent 4 hours in the Library, later discovering the books are in no way useful.
  • Booked a holiday for next summer!
  • Had 3 coffee dates in one week… oops.
  • Went to the cinema to see Bad Neighbors 2- was in hysterics the entire time.
  • Took my dog for a walk, broke up two fights between my dog and some devil cats, and wrestled my dog away from a fight with a husky.
  • Watched the trailer for ‘Me Before You’ on repeat.

Bring on next week!
